Proximal and remote sensing monitoring for sustainable management of tree crops irrigated with reclaimed water

The idea of this project comes as a result of the increasing use of reclaimed water (RW) for irrigation in many Mediterranean orchards. Considering that an inappropriate management of RW may lead to substantial risks to public health and the environment, this project proposes novel ideas and approaches to optimise, and sustainably manage the use of RW in irrigated orchards. In fact, the project tends not only to supply farmers with renewable water source but also to manage the use of RW in a way that can provide crop trees with essential nutrients. At the end of this project, we expected to obtain statistical models and tools for the agronomic interpretation of the results, in order to provide both decision makers and farmers with the right know-how for orchards irrigation with RW, with the goal to meet the challenges related to food security and environmental protection.
